“Never let anyone who cannot bear your pain make you feel you are unbearable. Not everyone is capable of walking with you, but that does not mean you are not worthy of belonging.”

-Morgan Harper Nichols-

Hi my name is Laurel but my friends call me Laur.  I am a white, cisgender, fiercely independent cancerian who loves dogs and some humans. I work with people navigating anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, substance use, disordered eating, and the impacts of sexual violence and intimate partner violence. I also support those exploring identity, sexuality, military life, caregiving, and life transitions.

I acknowledge the importance of ongoing personal and professional learning and unlearning, and I strive to practice from a feminist, LGBTQIA2s+ and anti-racist framework. This is lifelong work, and I am committed to engaging in it with humility and care.

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (7226) in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).  I work with adults (18 and up) in office, outside or virtually.  I am currently accepting new clients.

GET TO KNOW ME

I acknowledge with respect that my work takes place on the unceded, ancestral lands of the The lək̓ʷəŋən people, also known as the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations (Xwsepsum). I recognize the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the ways these continue to shape health, access, and wellbeing.

I am committed to ongoing learning, unlearning, and accountability, and to offering counselling in ways that are grounded in respect, relationality, and an awareness of systemic inequities. I strive to align my work with efforts to challenge the systems of oppression that have dispossessed Indigenous peoples of their lands and undermined their rights to self-determination.

I continue to reflect on what it means to be in right relationship with Indigenous communities, and to act in ways that support solidarity, respect, and meaningful change.

I also encourage you to learn about the lands you are on. If you are on what is now known as North America (Turtle Island), you can explore whose land you are on here: https://native-land.ca/
